Kiss Tobacco Goodbye!

Ottawa Public Health is pleased to launch National Non-Smoking Week (NNSW).  Throughout the week, we will highlight services and programs to support people who want to quit smoking and will celebrate individuals, businesses and organizations who are smoke-free champions!  Check back here throughout the week to see what is happening.

National Non-Smoking Week (NNSW) has been observed for more than 30 years.  It is one of the longest running and most important events in Canada’s ongoing public health education efforts.  It was established in 1977 by the Canadian Council for Tobacco Control (CCTC) and it aims to:

  • Educate Canadians about the dangers of smoking;
  • Prevent people who do not smoke from ever starting and becoming addicted to tobacco;
  • Help people quit smoking;
  • Promote the right of individuals to breathe clean air, unpolluted by tobacco smoke;
  • Denormalize the tobacco industry, tobacco industry marketing practices, tobacco products, and tobacco use; and
  • Assist in the attainment of a smoke-free society in Canada.

For more information about smoking cessation programs or tobacco, visit or call 613-580-6744 (TTY: 613-580-9656).  You can also connect with Ottawa Public Health on Facebook and Twitter (@ottawahealth) for the latest public health information.
